Earnings reports are key for options tradersBank stocks will kick off earnings season next week

Investors will return from a long weekend to the start of yet another earnings season, with bank stocks taking center stage this week. Blue chips JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS) will start it off, while sector peers Morgan Stanley (MS) and Wells Fargo (WFC) will also attract investor's attention. Dow component and healthcare issue UnitedHealth (UNH) will also step into the earnings spotlight. There's also retail sales for March, industrial production data, and the Fed's Beige Book for investors to comb through.

Below is a brief list of some key market events and a few high-profile earnings releases scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings and economic dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Traders will return from the long Easter weekend to a quiet Monday, April 13, with no economic data on tap and no company earnings reports of note.

Tuesday, April 14 will bring a muted economic calendar with just import and export price data on tap, though several names will ease Wall Street back into earnings season, including JPMorgan Chase, Fastenal (FAST), Infosys (INFY), United Airlines (UAL), and Wells Fargo (WFC).

It gets busy on Wednesday, April 15 with retail sales, the Empire State manufacturing index, industrial production data, business inventories, and the Fed's Beige Book all slated for today.On the earnings front will be Goldman Sachs (GS), UnitedHealth (UNH), Aphria (APHA), Bank of America (BAC), Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), Citigroup (C), Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Morgan Stanley (MS), PNC (PNC), and Progressive (PGR).

Thursday, April 16, will deliver weekly jobless claims, building permits, housing starts, and the Philly Fed manufacturing index. Abbott Labs (ABT), BlackRock (BLK), Delta Air Lines (DAL), Honeywell (HON), Ride Aid (RAD), Sonoco (SON), and Skechers USA (SKX) will throw their hats into the earnings ring.

It's a light end to the week on Friday, April 17 with not much on the economic schedule, and quarterly reports from Citizens Financial Group (CFG), Kansas City Southern (KC), and Schlumberger (SLB).
