VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 27, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Almaden Minerals Ltd. (“Almaden” or “the Company”; TSX: AMM; NYSE American: AAU) is pleased to report that, further to its press release of February 17, 2022, the Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico (“SCJN”) has published on the website of the SCJN its final decision regarding the mineral claim lawsuit. The Company has not yet been formally notified of this decision, but expects to be shortly.

Based on the initial review by Mexican counsel, the SCJN has expanded on the application of international law and jurisprudence to the implementation of consultation by Mexican authorities with relevant indigenous communities. The final decision also provides additional detail to Mexican authorities regarding the procedures required to be followed by those authorities in the performance of indigenous consultation prior to the grant of mineral claims. Furthermore, the decision clarifies that the Company’s original claim applications were submitted pursuant to the legal framework in force at the time and as such Almaden’s mineral rights at the Ixtaca project are safeguarded while the mining authorities comply with conditions and requirements prior to issuing the mineral titles. As previously disclosed, the Company has no interest in holding mineral claims over the indigenous community’s land.

Almaden intends to interact with Mexican government officials and local community officials in order to facilitate to the extent possible the government’s execution of its responsibilities in the issuance of the mineral titles. At present there is no timeline for the consultation process.
