2017-08-16 / @newswire

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Shuttles to companies like Google and Facebook, Bosch appliances, concierges, panoramic views and gourmet kitchens are San Francisco's top five most popular amenities compared to other major cities, according to HotPads (R).

HotPads, an apartment and home search platform for renters in urban areas across the United States, analyzed San Francisco apartment listing descriptions to identify the top amenities and determine how the most popular listing amenities changed over the past year.i

Shuttles are featured in nearly 10 percent of San Francisco's rental listings, compared to less than one percent of listings in other big cities. This is likely because many large technology companies offer shuttles to their employees. As the luxury market in San Francisco grows, there has been an increase in amenities like Bosch appliances, concierges, panoramic views and gourmet kitchens being touted in listings.

"More and more, builders are focused on meeting the desires of San Francisco's high-end renters," said Douglas Pope, co-founder and general manager of HotPads. "Access to transportation as well was luxurious features are now becoming standard in San Francisco apartments."

The city of San Francisco is comprised of approximately 229,100 renter households.ii The median rental list price in San Francisco is $4,200.iii

The majority of available rental inventory in San Francisco is on the high end of the market, contributing to the rise of luxury amenities in rental listings. Spas, Wi-Fi in common areas, decks (including rooftop decks) and panoramic views all increased in popularity within San Francisco in 2017. Spas topped the list of amenities growing in popularity locally, appearing in nearly 7 percent of the city's rental listings.

Building features such as basements and exposed brick are the two least popular amenities in San Francisco compared to other cities, appearing in only about 2 percent of listings each. Weather-sensitive features including heaters, yards, grills, tennis courts and pools are also among San Francisco's least popular amenities compared to top cities nationwide.
