(IDEX Online) - The International Gemological Institute (IGI) will host its first Jewelry Design Course in Antwerp due to continued popularity with students.

Being held from March 25-April 5, the course has been held in the past in Shanghai, India and Dubai, with the Antwerp course being the first European location for the program.

"Developed to bring out a budding designer's innate creativity, IGI's two-week course emboldens enthusiasts to design with not only ability, but confidence. Students learn the basics and complexities of designing specific types of jewelry, along with skills such as estimating corresponding costs. Students will also be taught basic illustration techniques along with practical aspects such as diamond and gemstone sizing, gold karat calculations and final product pricing," the IGI said in a statement.

"We are thrilled to bring such a highly sought-after class to Antwerp, where IGI was founded and has a rich history," said Roland Lorie, IGI CEO. "We are honored to help fuel the creativity and passion of our students through initiatives such as IGI's Jewelry Design Program. We look forward to continuing to provide these offerings for the betterment of the international jewelry community."

Additional highlights include a two-day workshop on handcrafted jewelry, guidance on designing a portfolio and the use of simple tools for effective design. Upon completion, students will be awarded the IGI diploma in Jewelry Design.
