Karowe Firm Gets First Female Boss

RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has appointed Naseem Lahri as the firstfemale managing director of its Boteti Mining subsidiary, which owns thehigh-value Karowe mine. "I am delighted to be welcoming Naseem into her new role asmanaging director of Boteti, the first woman and the first Motswana woman toserve in this capacity for a diamond company in Botswana," Lucara CEO EiraThomas said Tuesday. "Naseem combines the skills, experience and depth ofknowledge to ably lead our business interests in Botswana, and I am confidentthat under her stewardship, the maximum, long-term value of our Karowe diamondmine will be realized." Lahri has been the chief financial officer and director atBoteti for the past five years. She has over 17 years of experience in themining industry, and has served on the boards of the Debswana Pension Fund, the Botswana Accountancy College and Pula Medical Aid. As managing director, Lahri will continue to be responsiblefor finance, administration and security. Additionally, she will oversee allaspects of the business, and work with general manager Johane Mchive tohelp improve performance at Karowe. Lucara's Karowe asset is known for producing large stones,including the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona and the 813-carat Constellation.
