The October Commodity Markets Outlook projects Brent averaging $91 a barrel in 2026 and precious metals prices rising about 40 percent, with gold at $4,600 an ounce, as Middle East conflict and safe-haven demand dominate the outlook.

Gold price prediction 2026 received a clear marker in the World Bank’s latest Commodity Markets Outlook, released October 28, 2026. The report projects precious metals prices up roughly 40 percent in 2026. Gold is forecast to average $4,600 an ounce, up from $3,442 in 2025. Brent crude is expected to average $91 a barrel in 2026, up from $69 in 2025. Spot gold traded near $3,875 to $4,020 an ounce on October 30, 2026, well below both the January peak and the World Bank’s full-year average. The gap shows that the 40 percent figure is an annual average, not a straight-line rise from today’s level. Real yields and the U.S. dollar remain the main near-term influences on the gold market outlook 2026.

What does the World Bank’s gold price prediction 2026 actually say?

The World Bank expects the precious metals index to rise about 40 percent in 2026 before declining 8 percent in 2027. Gold’s $4,600 average for 2026 is slightly below the bank’s earlier April projection. Silver is forecast at $70 an ounce in 2026. The drivers cited are elevated safe-haven demand amid geopolitical and policy uncertainty. Ayhan Kose, the World Bank’s Deputy Chief Economist, said in the accompanying release: “Commodity markets are being hit by several major shocks at once.” Higher energy costs and trade disruptions are among those shocks. The forecast assumes no major further intensification of conflicts. An adverse scenario that combines escalation in the Middle East with continued damage to Russian oil infrastructure could push Brent to $105 in 2027.

Oil price forecast 2026 centres on supply losses. Global oil supply is projected to fall 5.2 percent in 2026, the largest drop in more than four decades outside the 2020 recession. Inventories have been drawn down by the Middle East conflict. Consumption is expected to decline 2.5 percent. These forces support the higher average. Crude oil price forecast figures can still move sharply if hostilities change. Energy prices overall are projected to rise 32 percent in 2026, reversing three years of declines, before moderating in 2027. Overall commodity prices are forecast up 23 percent in 2026 and down 7 percent in 2027.

How does this fit with current gold and oil prices?

Spot gold near $3,900–$4,020 on October 30 sits roughly 15–16 percent below the World Bank’s 2026 average of $4,600. That average can still be reached if prices recover later in the year or if the first-half average was already high. The January peak near $5,500–$5,600 pulled the early-year average higher before the subsequent correction. Gold market outlook 2026 therefore depends on whether real yields stabilize. Higher real yields raise the opportunity cost of holding gold, which pays no interest. The Federal Reserve held its policy rate at 3.75–4.00 percent on October 28. Markets priced a high probability of a further increase in December. A sustained rise in real yields would make the World Bank’s gold average harder to achieve. A pause in tightening would ease that pressure.

Brent has traded above $100 at times in recent months amid Middle East supply concerns. The $91 full-year average allows for periods both higher and lower. Oil and gold often move together when geopolitical risk rises, yet they can diverge when real yields dominate gold. Gold price forecast 2026 from the World Bank is therefore best read as a central case that already incorporates elevated geopolitical risk, not as a guarantee of continuous gains from today’s levels.

What does the forecast mean for major gold mining stocks?

A higher average gold price supports producer margins if costs stay contained. Agnico Eagle Mines (TSX: AEM) is a major Canadian gold producer. The company reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 28. Production guidance remains near the lower end of the 3.3–3.5 million ounce range. Total cash costs and all-in sustaining costs are expected near the upper end of guidance. A rock mass movement at the Barnat open pit of the Canadian Malartic complex on July 1, 2026 suspended mining. Operations resumed on September 27 after remediation. The event is expected to reduce production by 60,000–80,000 ounces in the second half of 2026 and by up to 150,000 ounces in each of 2027 and 2028. Barrick Mining and Newmont face their own cost and jurisdictional variables. Higher energy prices can raise diesel and power costs at mine sites even when the gold price is elevated.

What risks should investors note?

The World Bank’s forecast is a central case, not a floor. Further escalation in the Middle East or persistent damage to Russian oil infrastructure could push energy prices higher than projected. Weaker global growth could reduce demand for metals and for safe-haven assets. For gold producers, company-specific risks remain. For Agnico Eagle the multi-year production impact from the July 1 Barnat event is an operational constraint independent of the gold price. Cost inflation on energy and consumables can offset part of any price recovery. A stronger U.S. dollar or a further rise in real yields would pressure both the metal and mining equities. Gold price prediction 2026 therefore sits alongside execution risk at individual mines.

What to watch

The next World Bank Commodity Markets Outlook is expected in April 2027. Interim data on oil inventories, Middle East shipping and Russian export volumes will shape the oil price path. For gold, the Federal Reserve’s December 9–10, 2026 meeting and subsequent real-yield moves remain central. Company-specific items include Agnico Eagle’s updates on Canadian Malartic recovery and full-year production trajectory. Central bank gold purchase data from the World Gold Council will show whether official demand continues to support the metal. Investors can also track the gap between spot prices and the World Bank’s $4,600 average as the year progresses.
